Emissions inspection: Maximum fee: $18.50. Maine law caps Cumberland County enhanced inspections of 1996-or-newer vehicles at $18.50; the fee is payable whether the vehicle passes or fails.

High-impact exceptions

- A qualifying antique vehicle is exempt from Maine's periodic safety inspection.
- A vehicle registered as an antique auto is exempt from Maine inspection, including Cumberland County's enhanced component.
- Maine's Cumberland County enhanced inspection applies to gasoline-powered vehicles, so this non-gasoline powertrain does not receive the emissions component.
- Cumberland County's enhanced emissions equipment checks begin with the gas-cap test on 1974 model-year gasoline vehicles; an older vehicle still remains subject to any applicable safety inspection.
