High-impact exceptions
- Minnesota has no periodic safety inspection for ordinary vehicles; the periodic-inspection statute was repealed and only discretionary spot checks remain.
- Minnesota’s emissions inspection program was repealed effective 2000-03-01 (Laws 1999, ch. 178); no Minnesota county operates an I/M program.
- Minnesota ordinary in-state renewal, move-in, and private-sale transactions require no physical VIN inspection.
