Safety inspection (vehicle or transaction-specific branch): Fixed fee: $11. The official annual electric-vehicle safety-inspection fee is $11.

Safety inspection (vehicle or transaction-specific branch): Fixed fee: $15. The official annual safety-inspection fee for a vehicle over 8,500 pounds GVWR is $15.

Safety inspection + Emissions inspection (qualifying combined branch): No inspection charge. The same-station safety + emissions reinspection is included without another inspection charge within 30 calendar days.

Safety inspection (vehicle or transaction-specific branch): No inspection charge. The first same-station electric-vehicle safety reinspection is included without another charge within 30 calendar days.

Safety inspection + Emissions inspection (qualifying combined branch): Fixed fee: $55. $55 is one combined safety + emissions charge because the free same-station 30-day reinspection conditions are not met.

Safety inspection (vehicle or transaction-specific branch): Fixed fee: $11. The official electric-vehicle safety-only inspection fee is $11.

Safety inspection (vehicle or transaction-specific branch): No inspection charge. The same-station safety reinspection is included without another inspection charge within 30 calendar days.

VIN / identity inspection: Amount set or confirmed by the listed authority. The VIN check is completed by a local municipal police department; the reviewed DMV page does not publish one statewide fee, so confirm the local charge.

High-impact exceptions

• Rhode Island exempts a vehicle that either remains within both new-vehicle limits (2 years and 24,000 miles) or is registered exclusively with Antique Plates.
• The vehicle independently qualifies for Rhode Island's battery-electric emissions exemption and either its new-vehicle or Antique Plate inspection exemption.
• Rhode Island exempts emissions testing when a vehicle either remains within both new-vehicle limits (2 years and 24,000 miles) or is registered exclusively with Antique Plates.
• Fully electric vehicles are exempt from the emissions test; the biennial safety inspection still applies.
• Vehicles over 8,500 lb GVWR receive safety-only inspection; the emissions test does not apply.
• No VIN identity step applies to renewal or an in-state private sale of a Rhode-Island-titled vehicle.
